Areas of Expertise

Franziska - Licensed Psychotherapist Specializing in Psychological Counseling for Women. Expertise includes Trauma Therapy, Anxiety and Depression, Body Image, Crisis of Meaning, Motivation, Identity Issues, and Motherhood Support.
  • Healing from past traumatic experiences is an emotional journey and can bring up a lot of uncomfortable feelings. I'm here to help you navigate the complexities of trauma and work towards reclaiming your body, your strength and resilience. Together, we'll create a safe space where you can process what happened, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and reclaim your story.

  • If anxiety or depression is interfering with your daily life and well-being, know that you don't have to face it alone. I can help you better understand the root causes of your anxiety or depression and equip you with practical tools and strategies to manage your symptoms. Let's work together to bring more balance, peace, and joy into your life.

  • Society bombards us with ideas around beauty and femininity. I'm passionate about supporting women in developing a healthier relationship with their bodies and bring back the joy to eating whatever looks tasty. We'll explore body image issues, embrace the concept of body neutrality, and challenge societal norms around beauty and healthy eating. I'm committed to promoting fat justice and and work from a weight neutral approach.

  • Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, leaving us questioning our purpose and the meaning behind our experiences.

Should I quit my job? What if I go back to uni? Kids or no kids? Is this the right relationship for me? Or even the question: Is this all there is to life?

I'm here to help you navigate through these questions, providing guidance and support as you explore your values, passions, and the direction you want to take. Together, we'll find clarity, meaning, and a renewed sense of purpose. So you know exactly what your next step is!

  • If you find yourself struggling with motivation or frequently caught in a cycle of procrastination, I can assist you in uncovering the underlying factors contributing to this pattern. Through tailored techniques and strategies, we'll address self-limiting beliefs, time management, and create an environment that fosters healthy productivity. Additionally, I offer ADHD assessments providing a comprehensive picture to guide our approach and ensure the most effective support for you.

  • We construct our sense of self and identity through the people around us but that’s not always a complete or accurate picture. Developing a positive sense of self and building confidence is essential for a joyful and truthful life. I'm here to support you in exploring your identity, overcoming self-doubt, and boosting your self-esteem. Together, we'll challenge negative thought patterns, cultivate self-compassion, and empower you to embrace your unique strengths and qualities.

  • Becoming a mother can bring immense joy but also significant challenges. Whether you're navigating the transition into motherhood, experiencing postpartum difficulties, or dealing with issues related to parenting, I'm here to provide a supportive and non-judgmental space. We'll explore your concerns, develop coping strategies, and make sure you actually get to enjoy being a mom and build a solid relationship with your kids. I have worked with many families with babies, toddlers and teenagers.

  • If this is why you’re here know that I am sending you lots of love. I had two miscarriages and can relate. Dealing with infertility or experiencing a miscarriage is heartbreaking and drains our energy so much. You’re not alone and I’d love to support you on your journey wherever it may lead. Together we process what is going on and figure out which path you want to follow.

Franziska is a remarkable therapist and woman. Her combination of patience alongside use of practical, provoking ideas and tasks provided me with a safe and stable platform to really explore all of my past, to be able to stop and live in the moment, and not to be afraid of the future but to look forward to what's to come. I learned that with the right therapist, I could truly be myself, and that I am enough.

  • Diana, 48

Franziska has shown me that there is strength in being emotional and vulnerable. I realized that my children were mimicking my habit of just toughing things out. Once I changed how I handled my emotions and had an open conversation with my family, I noticed a significant impact on them. Now, we have meaningful conversations at dinner, and our family is closer than ever before.

  • Charlotte, 22

I was always looking forward to our sessions. You are open and honest as a person. I appreciated how you offered your take on things not only as a psychologist but also as a woman. You often asked me such specific and deep questions, that I would still think about when I was sitting at home. I was very happy with you and would come back anytime if necessary.

  • Laura, 32

I’ve reclaimed my sex life and feel much more confident in my body. I finally threw out all the clothes that didn’t fit and bought new, colorful ones instead of only black. The freedom I feel is indescribable. I didn't expect to be able to feel happy in my body without losing weight but I do!

  • Lyra, 16

I was in therapy for 1.5 years with Franziska. She was always compassionate and was very competent. She also had a good amount of humor and was empathetic. With her I was able to make a lot of progress concerning my attachment issues and fear of loss. I was better able to feel and talk about my emotions and I learned how to better express them.

  • Arianne, 36

Franziskas empathetic approach and understanding helped me to open up in ways I never thought possible. Through our sessions, I began to understand the patterns that had shaped my life and learned strategies to cope with my trauma. I feel more in control of my emotions and better equipped to handle the challenges of motherhood. Most importantly, I’ve started to break the cycles of trauma, ensuring a healthier, happier future for my daughter. I cannot recommend Franziska highly enough for anyone struggling with similar issues. She has truly changed my life.

  • Aria, 20

With the help of Franziska Hunkemöller I was able to tackle several challenges in my job, my family and my childhood. I was able to come up with new ways of thinking, was never judged and felt taken seriously. There was a good mix of difficult sessions and more comforting, thought provoking ones.

What I really liked, were the very concrete solutions we came up with together. She really went the extra mile to support me through this difficult time, I appreciate this a lot.

  • Ronja, 27

I met Mrs Hunkemöller by chance while doing my ADHD assessment. I felt comfortable, taken care of and understood throughout the whole process. I was able to talk openly about my worries and problems and felt I was in good hands. She is warm-hearted, understanding and uplifting in her personality. I still use many of her ideas and tips on a daily basis!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Therapy isn’t only for people with mental health problems but also for people who are looking to find purpose in their life, improve their relationships, their self-esteem, their work life and overall contentment. Sometimes it simply helps to talk through certain topics with a professional. Therapy can be beneficial in the pursuit of any goal, no matter what the goal is. Examples of things I helped clients in our sessions:

    • Improving their relationship with food, dieting, and body neutrality

    • Improving self-esteem and supporting the pursuit of a new career path

    • Working through childhood abuse and sexual violence

    • Finding new perspectives on difficult life transitions or support through stressful chapters of life (breakups, becoming a parent, studying, job change, etc.)

    • Coping with the loss of a loved one, miscarriage or infertility

This is a small selection of possible topics and I hope it helps you understand that there really isn’t any problem too small to seek therapy. You deserve to get the support you need to get to where you want in life.

Clear signs that you could benefit from psychotherapy are:

    • Suffering from difficult thoughts and emotions

    • Being unsure how long you can continue as is

    • Struggling with motivation

    • Suffering from low self-esteem

    • Feeling overwhelmed with life

    • Having gone through or experiencing a traumatic event (for example accidents, childhood neglect, sexual violence, loss of a beloved one or miscarriage etc.)

    • Suspecting you might suffer from a concrete diagnosis

Again, this is by no means a complete list of signs that therapy could be a good idea but they are some of the more common ones. If you are asking yourself if you should go to therapy, it is absolutely valid to book a session or two to figure out what you need.

Often we feel isolated with our suffering and sometimes even ashamed for not being okay. A therapist is someone you can talk to, who should validate your feelings and discuss other perspectives and help you learn new strategies for dealing with things. We do not need to carry the world on our shoulders, we are meant to share our life – the good and the bad.

  • Contrary to the belief of many seeking out a therapist, we do not give you advice on how you should live your life and then you suddenly feel all better.

A good therapist helps you find out what you actually want and helps you develop strategies to achieve your goal in your unique way. My role is to guide your self-discovery process with questions and suggest different perspectives or interpretations. Therapy should always be a safe space to explore and experiment, where you decide the pace and discoveries you take home. I want to help you to connect with the best version of yourself and find the courage to live the life you want.

  • Starting therapy can seem daunting. Will the therapist ask me to tell them every single painful detail of my life? How will they react? What if they laugh? What if I cry?

First sessions are such a gift for me, because it takes so much courage for my clients to open up. It is important to me to be respectful of their boundaries and to be grateful for what they choose to share.

Besides simply getting to know each other, common questions for a first session are:

    • Why are you here?

    • Is there a reason you decided to come now?

    • What would you like to achieve at the end of our work together?

    • What are things you expect from me (your therapist) during these sessions?

    • What are the things you are worried about?

These are some of the usual opening questions and depending on your needs we take it from there. I say we, because therapy is a common project and you get to decide what you talk about, which questions you want to answer and how fast we approach some of the more difficult topics. Therapy is your safe space and everything you share is confidential.

  • There really isn’t a one size fits all which is why finding the right therapist for you is so important. So how do you know who is right for you?

The single most important thing is that you feel comfortable with your therapist and feel you might be able to trust them over time. You should feel heard and taken seriously. Never think you need to commit to the first therapist you see. It really is much like shopping for clothes. You don’t go into a store and blindly pick out a random item. You can shop around for a therapist too! Meet two or three therapists and if you are unsure after the first session book another to make sure that this is someone you feel comfortable with.

  • Yes, absolutely. I will never disclose any information about you or what you shared with me.

I only share information my clients explicitly tell me to share - for example with parents or other people my client would want me to talk to.

  • Therapy is a collaborative process, and I will always honor your pace and your boundaries. If there are specific topics that you are not comfortable sharing at the moment, that is completely understandable.

Sometimes it happens that we stumble upon something painful and you might only realize during the conversation that you aren’t ready to share, that’s ok too. We will put a pin in it and circle back when you’re ready.

We can work together to gradually build trust and create an environment where you feel safe exploring those sensitive areas. It is essential to remember that therapy is a gradual process.

  • The number of therapy sessions needed varies greatly and is highly individualized. It depends on the person and the nature of their challenges. Some individuals may find answers or clarity in just a few sessions, while others may choose to work together for years. Therapy is a dynamic process, and the duration is influenced by factors such as the complexity of issues, personal goals, readiness for change, and desired support level. We will collaboratively review your progress to ensure we are addressing your concerns effectively.

  • A 60-minute session costs CHF 220, this includes the 50 minutes meeting time and 10 minutes preparation before and after our sessions.

I offer sliding scale rates for individuals with limited financial resources. I am committed to providing my services at fair rates that match the financial resources available to my clients.

  • Depending on your current supplementary health insurance provider, it is possible for therapy services to be covered either fully or partially. I have detailed information on therapy insurance coverage in Switzerland here.

However, it's important to note that in Switzerland, you are responsible for the initial payment of your sessions and the filing of reimbursement with your supplementary insurance provider later.

To simplify the process for you, I can provide a monthly cumulative invoice that you may submit to your health plan for potential reimbursement.

Based on available information online and the experiences of existing clients, the following Swiss insurances have been known to reimburse the therapy services I offer: Helsana, ÖKK, CSS, Visana, EGK, Atupri, Agrisano, Vita Surselva, SWICA, Assura, Rhenusana, Sympany, and Sanitas. Please keep in mind that insurance information and policies can change at any time, so it is advisable to contact your provider directly to verify how your specific plan compensates you for psychotherapy services.

I can provide any necessary documentation or assistance as needed.

  • I accept bank transfers and Twint. At the end of each month, I send out a monthly cumulative invoice for all the sessions for that month. This ensures that we have a clear overview and as little paper work as possible.

  • I kindly request a 48-hour cancellation notice for therapy sessions. This allows me to effectively manage my schedule and offer the session time to other clients if needed. Appointments canceled with less than a 48-hour notice will be billed at the session fee.

I understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, and I am committed to working with you to find a solution if such situations occur. However, to ensure fairness and maintain the effectiveness of our therapeutic work, the cancellation policy helps to honor the commitment of scheduled sessions.

I appreciate your understanding and cooperation regarding this policy, and I am here to address any questions or concerns you may have.

  • Starting from February 2022, I shifted to offering therapy exclusively online.

Working online offers the option to have the session in between a busy work schedule, avoids the hassle of long traveling times and you can chose wether you want to call from your own home, a quiet place at work or from a secluded bench in a park.

Many of my clients especially appreciate the flexibility online therapy offers.
